Icing will be the biggest concern for pilots above 10k feet. This incoming storm will bring mostly showers and some heavy precipitation to the mountains. High winds over the Mississippi river with severe icing above 10k feet. Cold air is moving in out of Canada and Alaska with combined forces of the northern and mid-latitude jet streams. Cold air will sweep in off the Pacific today and for the next 72 hours. This will affect the western states region from Washington to Northern New Mexico over the next few days.
The second storm about 5 days out is more likely to head to the Gulf of Alaska than move onshore in the US. We should be seeing it come in out of Canada in about 8 days. Entry for this storm into the US could be through the Great Lakes Region.
East coast will be getting the big chill for the next seven to ten days. That air mass will begin cooling the North East in the next two days.
